Christmas Cookies Like Grandma’s: Gingerbread, Linzer Cookies and Vanilla Crescents

Christmas Cookies Like Grandma’s: Gingerbread, Linzer Cookies and Vanilla Crescents

When the smell of gingerbread, vanilla and buttery Linzer cookies returns to the kitchen, it’s clear that Christmas is just around the corner. And there’s nothing more traditional than honest, homemade cookies made from our grandmothers’ recipes. We’ve prepared three classics for you — the kind that simply can’t be missing from the holiday table or a cozy movie night.

Soft Christmas Gingerbread with Honey

Ingredients:

  • 400 g all-purpose flour
  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp gingerbread spice mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 80 g butter
  • 100 g honey

Instructions:

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Add the eggs, melted butter and warm honey.
  3. Let the dough be kneaded by the Lauben Kitchen Machine 1300SG, which will combine and aerate it beautifully, ensuring the gingerbread stays soft by the next day.
  4. Let the dough rest for at least an hour.
  5. Roll out, cut shapes and bake at 170 °C for 7–8 minutes.

Linzer Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 200 g butter
  • 100 g sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • lemon zest
  • jam for assembling

Instructions:

  1. Place everything in a bowl.
  2. Let the Lauben Kitchen Machine 1300SG knead the dough — it works quickly without warming it up, keeping the Linzer cookies perfectly delicate.
  3. Let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out, cut shapes and bake at 170 °C for 8–10 minutes.
  5. Assemble with jam.

Vanilla Crescents

Ingredients:

  • 280 g all-purpose flour
  • 100 g powdered sugar
  • 120 g ground walnuts
  • 200 g butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • powdered sugar + vanilla sugar for coating

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients into a bowl and let the Lauben Kitchen Machine 1300SG combine them — it won’t heat the dough, helping the crescents keep their perfect shape.
  2. Shape the chilled dough into crescents.
  3. Bake at 170 °C for 10–12 minutes.
  4. Coat in sugar while still warm.

Whether you go for all three recipes this year or just your favourite one, one thing is certain… traditional Christmas cookies have a charm no modern treat can replace. And with the Lauben Kitchen Machine 1300SG, it’s even easier than it was in our grandmothers’ times.
